Dear Santa,
It’s quickly becoming that time again where turkey roasts juicily in the oven, Christmas pudding is being baked and Grandma is stuck to the sofa knitting an embarrassing Christmas jersey that I feel obligated to wear all holiday.
I’m not writing to complain about my funny little family, on the contrary, I’m writing you this letter in the hope to convince you to send me a surfboard this year for Christmas. I know I asked for one last year but perhaps I didn’t fully express my legitimate reasons for being so deserving. Below are my 6 reasons why I deserve a board this year.
1) It’s a great way to keep mum happy
I’m fairly certain your aim is to bring happiness to all folks. Mum keeps complaining that I spend too much time indoors and not enough time out in nature. Imagine! She would be smiling from ear to ear if I spent more time in the ocean. Therefore fulfilling your happiness quota.
2) Christmas belly, be gone!
Well, it’s a no brainer that surfing is great for the spirit and mind, being out in mother nature but it’s incredible for the body too. My growing Christmas belly doesn’t stand a chance of survival if I’m navigating waves daily on my very own board.
3) Make me happy
Mum always says the key to a good life is to always be happy. Spending time out in the ocean with mother nature will not only make mum stoked but me too!
4) Get to meet new and awesome people
Once on a wave the general rule is one man one wave, but that doesn’t stop it from being a social activity. When you’re sitting out the back waiting for that glassy 2ft right hander to come peeling down the point, there is nothing better than passing the time, chatting to some like minded ocean goers. New surfboard equals new friends.
5) An excuse to take my gran on a surfing holiday in Bali
As much as a surf trip to Indonesia with your grandmother may seem a tad bit odd. I believe this will be the perfect time to have an adventure with the old lady. I mean, she basically raised me. The least I could do is to teach her to use a video camera whilst sitting on a boat just off the island and film me paddle into some perfection. She may be old but she would be a great travel companion. After all, the older you get the wiser you get. Why not have a wise travel partner. Come on Santa, do it for Granny!
6) Last but not least…
Look! Santa, as much as I could sit here and come up with a million reasons why you should send me a board for Christmas, the waves are going off here and i think it’s time to close this laptop and go for a paddle (on a hired surfboard from the local surf school). You see, I wouldn’t have to hire a surfboard if you sent me one for Christmas. I wouldn’t have to be reliant on a surf store to be open if i had my own and would save lots of money. Please Santa, make me a very happy person and send me a board for Christmas, do it for the Joy!
Yours sincerely,
Frothing surfer
