Rural South Africa at its best. Coffee bay offers awesome waves.
It’s been an awesome weekend in Coffee bay, we got such good waves. We woke up to clean 3-4 foot waves three days in a row. The water was 25 degrees and the crew loved it. We had a few of the crew out at the right hand sand bottom point, which just peels off and gives the guys ideal conditions to practice.
The beach break had a great left hand wave, which gave the guys a verity of waves to play around in. Beth was really enjoying the point, she was shredding waves all the way in. Gregor was pushing his surfing, and getting some awesome waves in the most untouched place left in South Africa. We had all these waves to ourselves, it was just meant to be. Day after day the waves poured in, we surfed until our arms didn’t want to move. The conditions were just all time, and we made the must of it.
Some of the guys went and stayed overnight at a local village house and got the true feeling of being African. We also took an afternoon out to try some traditional beer, which is made out of maize, it’s low in alcohol and is made to respect the African gods. The same afternoon we had dinner there, we add maize and beans with tomato soup. The experience was traditional and the walk home watching the lightning light up the sky was just icing on the cake. That evening we played a couple games of pool and had some drinks to celebrate a great few days and awesome experiences.
Coffee bay is a big holiday destination for people from Durban, East London and Johannesburg. It’s so beautiful and lets you relax and get back to the roots of being an African. For us it offers all the needs, waves, uncrowded warm water, blue skies and epic memories. Never mind the bright stars at night because you're 100 km from the nearest town, the memorial walk to hole in the wall, it’s a walk that is done on the coastline. It’s a great walk, once you reach the hole in the wall after your 8 km journey, you are greeted with toasted sandwiches and a cool drink. Have a swim or go jump into the hole for a thrill.
This destination is just indescribable, you never know what’s about to happen next, a pod of dolphins swim around us while we enjoy the funnest waves. You don’t experience that every day but after you have, you are just the happiest surfer around for miles. We will miss you Coffee bay and your awesome times, meeting new people, surfing with dolphins and staring at those bright stars.
Our last day was fun and we got to surf and hang out at the river in front of coffee shack, there were some waves running in and we gave it a go and got some fun rides.
It’s been a great and fun stay in Coffee bay, next stop Bluff Durban.
