Cape Town and the start of a new trip is officially underway. We are happy to let you know that eveyone arrived safely on Friday coming from all over the world, in fact this is one of our most multi-national trips to date. Despite travelling times up to 38 hours, they were were a cheerful bunch, and very happy to arrive to the warmth and beauty of Cape Town, and our backpackers which is right on the beach.
The first night we put on a welcome braai (BBQ) to get everyone settled in and into the South African way of life. Some beers were shared, delicious chicken and boerewors (famous South African sausage) eaten, and it was brililant to see the group quickly bonding and chatting away. With promises of good waves the next day, and long travels it was quite an early night for most.
Saturday morning we had a briefing of what the group could expect in Cape Town, and South Africa, and then it was straight into surf lesson number one. As I run the ISA Level 1 instructor course for them at the end of the trip, I did the first surf lesson with them too. We have a broad range of surfers, from total beginners to those who can comfortably go out the back and ride the open face. It always makes me so excited seeing their levels and knowing how much each and every person will improve on the trip ahead. They did really well and we pushed on to do two session to kick off the trip with a band. The wind was offshore, the water warm and the sun shining, the perfect start to their trip.
