It’s that time of year again.. We do that thing where we look back at things past, reminisce the good and curse the bad. Now a year in the world of Ticket to Ride is like half a year in the real world, everything seems to come and go so quickly as you’re overwhelmed with the excitement of meeting new people and experiencing all these wonderful places.

"you have the best job in the world" something I hear often (I can see why)

“you have the best job in the world” something I hear often (I can see why)

If you had to ask me each day for a week about a specific moment that I found most memorable I’d probably give you a different answer each time, such is the nature of what we do, it’s simply incredible.

A lil Mozam Magic!

Running trips in South Africa, Mozambique and Indonesia over the past two years has been a life changing experience, It’s opened up possibilities for my life that I never thought imagineable. The people, places, memories and things I’ve learnt along the way have added immense value to the entirety of my being and so it’s difficult for me to mention a single time and event that moved me more than any others. I will say however, that a moment of monumental satisfaction and gratitude happened for me recently whilst running a trip in a place called Pomene, Mozambique.

Another year of trips was winding down and it was our last few days in Mozambique, I’d spent the previous 3 months with the same people day in and day out, having never met each other before, we’d travelled and surfed through the beautiful country I get to call home, South Africa. Now I’d done this before plenty times but I found myself for some reason on this occasion, more sensitive to the reality of what I do. After a day of surfing and exploring, I was sat on the balcony, beer in hand (as seen above) in the most amazing accommodation, in the vast remoteness of Mozambique, with flamingoes flying across the horizon and a sunset that’ll take your soul to infinity and back again, I came face to face with the life I lead. A culmination of every experience, every memory and every emotion compressed into a single moment. A dream lived out without recognition because I was too busy living it to notice. I remember hoping that in some way or form it would be the same for everybody who had shared in any trip with me. It’s a good place to be, not thinking about forever, or wondering about what it all means, but appreciating the now and whats possible in it, because life is good, if you let yourself live it.

That was my moment for 2016

Watch this clip I made of our entire time in Mozambique and you’ll see why I was thinking less and feeling more
