Another week has raced by in South African Road Trip. Even in such a short amount of time, we’ve seen major improvements in fitness and surfing ability.
Nonetheless, no matter how fit you are, a big part of learning to surf is working with the right equipment. This week, Chris Bond did a thorough breakdown on surfboard design and its evolution over the years. For our guys, this gave them valuable insight into equipment selection. After 10 days of trying the incredible rental range at Lifestyle Surf shop, everybody was ready to purchase their own boards that they’ll use for the rest of the trip.
However, the boards would have to wait before their first use. A week of surfing has started to take it’s toll so we took some time out to see some more of what Cape Town has to offer. Naturally, a trip to Cape Town wouldn’t be the same without visiting the African Penguin colony near Simons Town.
As well as its wildlife, South Africa is also famous internationally for its wines. We visited one of the oldest vineyards in the country for wine and chocolate tasting.
In addition, we also enjoyed a few nights out on the town together as a group. These included a Karaoke evening at the infamous Brass Bell and a night out in Cape Town’s city centre.

To conclude, we’ve made our way up to our to our first stop on the East Coast, Plettenberg Bay. Thanks to everybody in Cape Town who made our stay as enjoyable as it was and a massive shout-out to African Soul Surfer for hosting us so well!
