Going into our third week of the South African Road Trip we were all starting to get to know each other. Traveling broadens the mind, and never more so when it’s with complete strangers. Plenty of stories have been exchanged so far, and this week, the fireplace in Plettenberg Bay really set the tone.
There was some hefty swell about while we were in Plett. Still, we managed to find a sheltered bay that had some fun waves for everybody:
Our stay in Plett was short and sweet. Not that that stopped us from fitting in a few activities before the short drive to Jeffreys Bay. South Africa is renowned for its wildlife and spectacular natural landscapes. We visited the Robberg Nature reserve to get panoramic views of Plett’s pristine coastline.
The region is also home to the worlds highest bridge bungey in the Tsitsikamma Reserve at Bloukrans Bridge. It stands at an incredible height of 216 meters. We jumped off!
We then hit the road on a pilgrimage every surfer on a South African road trip makes at some point in their lives. Finally, we were on our way to Jeffrey’s Bay!
Now, we have a 12-day stay here in Jbay and it’s been incredible so far. We’ve surfed our brains out and have had waves every day so far. I was lucky enough to spend a few weeks in Indo just before this trip. The consistency and quality of the South African waves have been on par with what I experienced there with Ticket to Ride. I’ve had a double-helping of world-class waves!
Here’s to another epic week on South Africa’s east coast!
