Hi all and Welcome to Cintsa

Time is definitely running away on us here as we find ourselves at stop number 4 and half way through this epic crossing of the South African coastline. It’s been an unbelievable trip so far, and I can’t help but feel there’s still way more to come as we make our way eastwards towards the tropical waters of Durban.

But before I get ahead of myself, lets wrap things up from J-Bay. On Tuesday, after our work with Alison and the Supertubes foundation we figured it was time to cool off and have some fun at the waterfall again before heading back to the hostel for another classic Island Vibe dinner.

On Wednesday Etienne gathered us all together for a trip to St Francis Bay, the surf spot made famous by the legendary Bruce Brown and his film Endless Summer. Unfortunately the swell direction didn’t favour the famous point break, but there were at least some decent waves coming through at the bay around the corner. The guys surfed the peak all morning. With a nice, consistent swell rolling in there were plenty of waves to be had.

For lunch we stopped over at Viking’s for a pie and coke – another “must do” when visiting this little town – before heading back to J-Bay to spend the last few hours o the day out on the beach playing some Frisbee enjoying the evening.

Thursday was our last day in so I decided to give the guys the day off to go and do all their last minute things in the town. There was a decent swell in town so most of the guys opted or a free surf. In the afternoon a really big swell hit, but with the onshore conditions, it was impossible to surf it.

Yesterday morning, with every intention of leaving early, we awoke to some CLASSIC J-Bay conditions! There was no ways we were leaving just yet. The guys headed out at Kitchens for one last surf. We saw Etienne in the water which was quite nice, he was calling guys onto waves and getting everyone amped to take on the bigger swell. It was the best send-off present that J-Bay could have given us and by the time we finally got into the van and headed out of town, we were all exhausted from all the surf.

So long J-Bay and thanks for all the waves!

Till next time…

Take care,
Bevan and Jill
