Hi all
After a week in Cintsa we now find ourselves right in the heart of the Transkei. Our last few days have been really packed with loads of activity, and yes, surfing!!
On Sunday we finally found our gap in the onshores and brown water to get some time in the water. We surfed a break just down the road called Glen Eden. Eden indeed, this little bay served up some really nice waves and everyone was stoked to finally be back out in the water.
In the afternoon the wind kicked up again so we headed inland to the Lion Park to meet Africa’s most infamous creature. Fortunately for us the park has recently had cubs born so we were fortunate enough to get to go in with the little guys. It proved a little too heart-melting for some of the guys, who were hatching plans to smuggle a little cub out with us.
Monday say the wind turn offshore which was great news! We headed into town to surf one of the more famous waves in the area. Nahoon beach. The light west wind were just what we needed and we surfed all day, breaking only for a short lunch and milkshake.
The day wasn’t over though. When we got back to the hostel we saw some epic little waves breaking in the bay, so we got suited up again and put in our 3rd surf of the day.
Needless to say it was an early night
Rest was definitely needed though cause yesterday we were surprised by another morning of offshore winds. This just meant more surfing. The waves in the front were perfect. The tide was just right, and, for the first time on the trip, it would appear that everything was just perfect!! We surfed the morning away until our arms just wouldn’t go anymore.
We came back in and had a good rest before heading out to the pools for our last swim in East London as well as a visit to the supermarket to stock up for our time in Coffee Bay. We’re going to be spending a week in the heart of the Transkei, which we’re all thoroughly looking forward to. The forecast is looking pretty good as well so we’re all holding thumbs for great waves.
Till then
Take care,
Bevan and Byron.
