Hi all and Welcome back to the Transkei
The weather out here has been amazing so the past few days have been really packed with activity and surfing.

On Sunday the waves were really looking good! The southwest blew all day, which meant 3 surfs on the point for some of the guys. Lately the high tide has been working a lot better than low, so we’ve planned our lunch breaks to coincide with the tides so that we can maximise our time in the water.

On Monday we used our low tide, down time to go for a hike to the Mapuzi Cliffs just outside Coffee Bay. The hike takes you out onto the hills overlooking the sea, down the goat trails to the coast and then over the rocks to the cliffs. Once at the cliffs the guys could opt to do the jump into the sea, which most people chose to do. After some time on the rocks and a few jumps it was back up the goat trails to make our way back to base camp.

Later, in the afternoon, the waves picked up again with the tide so we headed back out to Coffee Bay for another surf. Good times!!

Yesterday the swell dropped off quite a bit. The wind was still right, but the small waves meant that we had to wait for high tide before we could head out for a surf. Instead, some of the guys chose to do the hike to the Hole-in-the-Wall, which is a beautiful, natural landmark on this stretch of the coast. To get to the hole the guys made the 3 hour hike over the hills and through the valleys until finally coming out onto the beach and then the Hole itself. It’s definitely a surreal scene to see a giant cliff with a neat little hole carved out of the middle of it, so definitely a worthwhile trip.

In the evening we returned to the Coffee Shack to prepare for our party. Every so often the Coffee Shack throws a themed party and this time it was The Jungle. Having spent so much time out in the Trnaskei, our guys definitely had some inspiration and some of the costumes that came out were really quite innovative.

So it’s been a great time here in the Transkei, but I must say, I’m definitely looking forward to getting onto the east coast, which is where Byron and I both come from. It’ll be great to be with the crew in our own neighbourhood this time and there is still loads of amazing things for us to still see and do. So until next time…

Take care,
Bevan and Byron
