Tofo is a really really fun place, and we stay there long enough to feel at home. When you drive down the road and have people waving at you, or talking to you in the water, or at one of the beachside bars, it makes a place stick in your heart. This was the case for the guys and as the time ran down there everyone wanted to stay for longer. So what was it that made it so amazing?
Well the fishing was definitely a factor! Ryan has a boat up in Tofo and being able to go out on a boat in the evening and catch your own tuna is awesome. We ate more fresh tuna, both sashimi and cooked than I have had in my life. We would catch enough to give a couple to the kitchen and still share a 4-5kg tuna between us, yes we ate like kings! The fishing side and pulling in a fish like that is a whole lot of fun too. It is a real fight and tiring but a lot of fun once you get it in.
And then there are the waves. I think there was just one day we didn’t surf in Tofo, and every other day we got really good waves. We surfed different waves on different tides in perfect temperature water and it was just epic. Everyone’s surfing improved loads and we had loads of good sessions.
Oh yes, the yoga, you saw a couple of pics in the last blog, but for a good 5 days straight we did good stretching/yoga sessions. Not lead by a professional but Ryan and myself have done a fair bit, and with a yoga centre at Turtle Cove it was easy and the perfect space to do it. With any sport stretching is important, but with surfing it seems to be extra important as our bodies can end up in all sorts of crazy positions. Either way it was really good and enjoyable.
And of course the food. We ate like kings at turtle cove, I don’t even know how else to put it, but those chefs can seriously cook a good meal. Oh, and the pizzas at Dino’s were best-ever.
Ok, so yes it was amazing, check the next blog to see more…
Chow for now,
Chris
