After the sad goodbyes on Friday and a quiet night, we packed the car early Saturday morning. We have a Toyota 4×4 land cruiser for our journey up to Praia Do Tofo. It’s an amazing drive; we head up the north coast of Durban, then drive through Swaziland and into Mozambique. The border post is about 130km outside the Mozambique capital, Maputo. As you drive through Swaziland you see some amazing landscape and the people are very friendly. We had to fill up with diesel just before crossing over the border, but had to wait, as there was no petrol or diesel. While they were getting filled the garage was getting more jam packed with cars waiting to get petrol or gas. We didn’t wait long and we were off to the Mozambique border. After the border we headed to Casa Lisa accommodation, which is our stop for the night. We had an awesome 3 course dinner and headed to bed.

We woke up and left to Praia Do Tofo around 3am in the morning to make good time and avoid the traffic. By 6am it was boiling and it was our first taste of the Mozambique sun and heat. We had a 6 hour drive that seemed to fly by quick. Tofo is just outside Inhambane town, which is a quaint little town with old buildings and is the main distributor of products in the surrounding areas.

We got into Tofo and we were over the moon. We had arrived to sunny 28 c weather, clear skies and fun 2-3 foot waves. Paradise is the word. It’s a tropical destination that brings a lot of people from Europe and South Africa. It’s the perfect place to relax and kick back and get some sun, go scuba diving, ocean safaris and surf in 26 c water with whale sharks meters away. We unpacked and got settled in at Turtle Cove, which is our home for roughly the next 2 weeks. We headed for our first surf after a light meal at Tofinho point. It’s a right hand sand bottom point, and gets absolutely world class. We have been blessed the last few times with really fun consistent waves.

We surfed that afternoon at Dinos beach break. It’s a fun wave that’s a little less work then Tofinho point with some fun peaks and no one around. That night we had a good dinner and early nights sleep. We are in for a great stay in Tofo.

Check back in soon,

The Ticket to Ride Group have got rid of the van and are now in a well equipped 4*4 in the depths of Mozambique in search of tropical waters and perfect waves.
