Despite the overcast and occasionally rainy weather in Plettenberg Bay the group got to experience the best of what the area and its surrounds has to offer. Plett and the Garden Route has to be one of the most exhilaratingly beautiful stops on our journey up the coast. In many ways this part of the trip was about ‘facing your fears’ as apart from the big swell the group encountered regularly we also had a few adrenalin charged activities on the agenda for the week. Here is a video or read on below and see more pics.

That was exactly the case when we decided to drive through to Bloukrans without warning and do the worlds highest Bungee at 216m. Not everybody had the stomach for it but those who did decide to jump had a noticeably increased lust for life afterwards (myself included). Prior to the jump the tension was tangible and just walking out to the platform was scary enough for most. It is one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had.

The very next day there was more install for the group as the sky’s cleared, the sun came out and Chris Bond thought it was a great day for a sky dive. Not everybody agreed and surprisingly it was only a few of the girls who were brave enough to go. A few nervous laughs on the way up were followed by ear to ear smiles on descent as the guys created another memory to last a lifetime.

The group also had a great day out visiting the wild Cats at an animal sanctuary in one of Pletts surrounding areas. We got to walk amongst and interact with many different kinds of wild cats both big and small with the favourites being the Cheetahs and the Leopard. It was a real treat to witness these majestic animals up close and personal.

We also got familiar with the local landscapes and vegetation as we went for a leisurely walk through a nearby Nature Reserve. Plettenberg Bay is a beautiful place and the views of the sea and the surrounding lush Fynbos made for a tranquil and relaxing afternoon out as we took a break from the adrenalin charged activites.

As we get deeper and deeper into our trip we also get the pleasure of learning more about each other and we’ve learned that a few guys in the group are very talented singers and musicians, providing entertainment back at our backpackers and a few even plucked up the courage to get on stage and perform at a night out on the town for some open mic. They blew the audience away!

We had such a great time in Plett and our week there flew by but we’ll look back on it fondly and reminisce as we settle into Jeffreys Bay now and prepare ourselves for the awesomeness that awaits us here.
