Hello and good morning to you. So, into our third day in Plettenberg Bay, commonly known as Plett and it has been lovely up here. Plett is one of South Africa’s best known and most popular ‘holiday towns’ because of its hilltop views overlooking the Indian Ocean, mysterious mountains behind, beautiful white sand beaches, active sea life and temperate waters.??Having said our tearful goodbyes to Will, Tim, Shaun and Lucinda, we arrived safe and sound on Sunday after a long drive. The group chilled out for the afternoon in the humid weather before sampling the local cheap but very tasty pizza place for dinner. As for dinner last night, Albergo’s backpackers make a braai every night where people can bring their own meat and braai it so we are gonna have some braaimasters by the end of the week with JT leading the charge.
I got some funny looks putting my sweet potato on the coals, and with half a butternut going on tonight we’ll see who gets advenutous. Oli pulled out the family recipe doing banana wrapped in bacon, or ”banacan”, last night which was absolutely delicious.??Moving away from cooking, we had cooking waves (ha ha couldn't resist) yesterday down at Solar beach. With windless conditions, sun shining, sand burning the feet on the beach and comparatively warm water coming from cape town the settings were their for a good surf. The 1-2 metre waves breaking along the good sandbanks as the tide pushed provided the perfect opportunity for some of the longest rides along the open face of the wave that we have had yet. For those still mastering the basics the ever enthusiastic Donna and Renee were giving good coaching on the broken waves closer in. Judging by the improvement as the session went on some good advice was given by the very experienced and somewhat intimidating at first John Henry who runs the surf school. His enthusiasm for improvement and focus on safety in the water led to a very well structured and productive session. When everyone was too tired to paddle, walk or stand we crawled back up the beach to head home.??
Now, one of the best parts of being in Plett is the activities which we do whilst we are up here… With thoughts of throwing themselves off the highest bridge bungy in the WORLD as well as out of planes, I am already hearing rumours of sleepless nights!! To go with that there are trips to go and see some cheeky primates at monkeyland and riding ostriches later in the week. For some reason we have someone who is scared of riding one of these massive birds, but we assured him that if it harmed him at all we would take him out to eat a juicy ostrich steak that night to get his revenge…??Okay got to head down to the beach where the tide is starting to come in, the clouds have cleared and the wind is offshore… Enjoy your day, we’ll enjoy ours. Until later then…??Peace
