Hey Everyone

We just finished our time in Jbay and it has been, as always, an amazing time. One of my favourite moments of the JBay leg was an afternoon session at kitchen windows, I have recently got myself a water housing for our slr camera and only used it a couple of times. It was late afternoon, it had just glassed off and was quite small, so I swam out to try and get a couple of shots of the group bearing in mind my housing has no outside functions so everything has to be set up prior to hitting the water, the only function I have in the water is the trigger. I got a couple of really cool shots of the group, and we all messed around laughing and enjoying watching the sun go down in the water.

Jbay is filled with days like that, endless surfing and loads of laughs. There is however a lot more to Jbay. An activity that the group all enjoyed was going sandboarding with the famous island vibe man (Freddy); Olly got the hang of it straight away getting the better of the rides, while Charley tried to carve it up and Nick got some good rides with epic wipeouts.

On every Monday afternoon we go and join the Supertubes foundation, where we help them with any tasks that they might need a hand with. The foundation brings cleaning up Jbay, kids and the community together. They aim at recycling, and getting the younger generation to get involved giving them incentive to help clean up the beautiful Jbay and be aware of the recyclables. They then get a card where the amount of recyclables gets converted into “moola”a money system where they can then buy the necessary basics, such as soap, books, pens, clothes and even save for bigger things like a bicycle. All in all its one of the best community projects I've been to, and the group and kids benefit from us coming and helping.

We also went to the waterfall/zipline and had a great time messing around there, had a little braai and a couple of drinks and enjoyed the cliff jumps and zipline. Charley and Chris managed to get the courage to do the big jump, but they were both pretty scared. I managed to pull off the braaiing which I normally leave to a confident male but I seemed to be the only one close enough to knowing what I was doing.

We also went and checked out Mikey Meyers surfboard factory, which is a small-scale shaping bay with glassing and sanding rooms, and a lot more personal than your normal factory. His passion for shaping always comes through and the group really enjoyed seeing the process of shaping a surfboard.

To add a bit of wildlife we went to Seaview lion park and checked out some big lions. Charley had her go pro out and stuck it through the fence which was pretty naughty, well she got the fright if her life when the lion had a go at her. Lucky the gap between them was big enough and the electrical fence managed to stop the lion, it was pretty funny and we all had a good laugh about it afterwards. Unfortunately the lions were too big to touch so we just had to look at them from afar.

So as you can see we had an epic trip in jbay, it was filled with loads of surfing. With the very talented coach Etienne, learning loads about positioning and starting to turn. As well as going to loads of different spots in Jbay. Hope you enjoyed the blog, next stop Coffee bay.
