If you hadn't heard by now, Jordy Smith has brought out a new surf movie called Now Now. And for those of you have already bought it on iTunes you could be mistaken for thinking that he had just come on three of our
Ticket to Ride Surf Adventures!
The movie starts off with a couple of short clips from Cape Town, South Africa right where we begin our 10-week trips. From that short intro he heads over to Bali where we start our Indonesian adventures. Jordy's surfing at Keramas is second to none, and not doing better there in the WCT event was a real surprise for all, including himself. He mixes it up nicely with barrels, airs, proper man-turns and Jordy may just be bringing the layback snap back into fashin, watch this space!
Not having had enough of Indonesia he did a little island-hopping choosing Sumbawa as his destination for more fun, rippable waves. He once again throws in a great mix of fun barrels, airs and turns on a very rippable right. One of the things I enjoy most about the movie is that it is all filmed in fun 3-4 ft waves, waves that are very 'normal'! Well very good but not just perfect 6 foot greenbush or Tahiti, normal people could surf them (no, Jordy does not surf normally).
Jordy and fellow Director Jocob Wooden bring in some great lifestyle clips, but keep it short and sweet, really adding to this short-film tremendously. A lot of surf movies of late are very 'arty' and wishy washy, and this one they have certainly kep to the point, to the extent that it is only 15:14 minutes long!
From about 5:15 in they show some SERIOUS turns, before heading over to another Ticket to Ride destination, Mozambique. They in fact linked up with TTRide Mozambique trip leader Ryan Ribbink to chase down the swell which they SCORED! This was the footage which Jordy won the X-Games Gold earlier this year, and as he said in an interview it was really hard editing the 90 second X-games clip when his best wave was 90 seconds long! Here we get to see all the amazing barrels at a location which we frequent on the Ticket to Ride trips, as well as some phenomenal surfing at Tofinho point which we surf all the time on our trips. His mix of layback hacks, air reverses, grabs, tailslides, carves, snaps and barrels is just too fun to watch.
From Mozambique he ends off in the last stop on our South Africa trip, Ballito. This section I really can't tell you too much about you are just going to have to watch it yourself, but lets just say in involves Jordy going very high and doing flips! Probably the cleanest flip I have ever seen.
But no more talk, you only have 19 hours left to go and watch the movie for free here, or just go straight to iTunes and buy it now now, he has made it cheap and you WILL watch it again!
