It's about 2 weeks into our TTRide July trip, and we’ve just traveled from Cape Town to Plettenberg bay. Before we left Cape Town we decided to do something a little different and walk up Table mountain as the sun was coming up, when we got to the top there was a bit of cloud cover and it felt as though we were on top on the world. So surreal, above us were clear skies and we could see all the 12 apostles as well as getting some fun go pro footage of dassies (they look like your average rodent, but they are fairly closely related to elephants).
We headed straight back to the hostel and loaded the car to start our drive to Plett. It’s a beautiful drive through the garden route, and as the hours go by, the scenery is forever changing but the beauty holds all the way through.
The next morning we had our first surf lesson with Levi from the International Surf School. I decided to get my water housing out and give it a test drive in the ocean for the first time. While I was out there I started thinking about why I LOVE doing what I do and what keeps me coming back. While swimming around trying to get myself in the right place for the shot I thought about how beautiful and challenging surfing is and how much the ocean can help sculpt a person and direct them into understanding themselves a little better and push them in areas of their lives that might need some assistance. As well as giving you endless happiness, laughter and smiles.
I see people start the trip being either a little unsure or overly confident and as the trip progresses each of them slowly discovering new things about themselves as well as exploring and learning about the culture of a new country. I realize why I love my job and why I believe in the value of this trip. It’s a trip of a life time and as I reach my two year mark with this company, I still learn something new about myself every single trip and although I've been to every spot and explored it all; the beauty and excitement never ends. The adventure is endless and the good times keep flowing.
You never stop learning with surfing so why not do it in a beautiful country surrounded by beautiful people who all have a keen sense of adventure. That’s why I love what I do, meeting amazing people and watch them go on a ride of a lifetime.
