Aah Mozambique….
Wow, this place is simply amazing. I always find it hard to describe Mozambique, it isn’t that picture perfect Mauritius image, although it has those aspects to it, but it is also a little more rugged and real here, paradise.
After a sad day of airport shuttle and goodbyes it was exciting as we went and picked up the 4*4’s to get ready for our Mozambican adventure leaving the next morning. Despite knowing that there was a 2-day drive ahead, spirits were high as we set off early in the morning to cross borders and discover new territory. It was a long drive, but by leaving at 3:30am for our second days drive it meant we made it Tofo by midday and after getting in some good lunch we settled in for our first surf in the afternoon.
Now, while the water is warm in Durban, and boardshorts are a common thing, Tofo is on a different level. The water is perfect crystal clear and the water is super warm. Like when it is windy and a little rain squall hit us it was way warmer to be in the water than on land. And on land is never more than shorts, flip flops and maybe a t-shirt. The waves have been really fun ever since and the guys are seriously settling into life in Tofo.
I’m gonna describe for you briefly how we spent our first four days in Tofo…
Wake up early and go and eat fruit salad and have a coffee, knowing the waves are only going to start getting good around low tide which was mid morning. After breakfast get stuff together and go and surf the point until your arms are going to fall off. Get out the water, and eat lunch. Chill for a bit in the hammock and read a book then head down to the beachbreak in front of Dino’s to surf some super fun peaks as the tide pushes. Surf until you can’t paddle and head in for a beer whilst watching those who still have energy catch there last couple of waves. Then it is back to Turtle Cove (our accommodation) for a quick shower, order some dinner and a couple more drinks before bed. Not such a bad routine hey?
For everyone here think this has been their favourite stop so far, but I won’t rub it in and will let you just have a little squiz through the photos if you haven’t already!
Ciao
