Wow
The surf has really turned up a notch this week and the swell has been well overhead and bigger on the sets. It was nice kind of having small waves for the first week just to get used to the breaks. And with the swell set to increase even bigger on Friday and all the way through till Monday it’s going to be a great time to surf.
So far the guys have been divided into 2 groups, those that can surf and those that have limited or no surf experience before. The guys that can surf have been with George our other surf coach and I have been working with the beginners. George’s guys (Elliot, Sarah and Miles) have all been doing deep water work and really need to refine technique more than anything else. It’s going to be a real test tackling some bigger waves for them.
Faye, Kieran, Maddy, Naedeane and the recently departed Mary (back home to the U.K). have been with me and we have working on developing a good solid pop up and are now developing surfing on forehand and backhand all in the white water. The guys all started on bigger boards to allow for the small conditions and the very steep learning curve that is simply "Surfing". After a week of lessons, free surfs and lots of wipe outs we went board shopping and bought boards that were suitable for the duration of their trip here in Santa Teresa. Boards that they could improve on and grow into. The new boards were like wiping the slate clean and again we had to develop a good pop up and stance, after all this is the foundation on which all good surfing is built on.
So what does the future hold for our riders? Well looks like my guys are almost ready for some deep water work, while the others better wax up there boards as it looks like they are going to have to push themselves in what looks like another epic week of surf.
If it’s going off
We are getting on it………….
