We’re underway and Surfing South Africa again, only for 6 weeks this time though in what is a smaller more compact version of our longer 10-week instructor course trips here, there’s one key difference though… It’s our peak time of year for swell and favourable wind, it’s winter!

So while it’s been a bit colder outside than you’d expect from an African winter, the waves have been firing!

So we start in surfing in Cape Town and make our way up the east coast. From the cold Atlantic up to the warm Indian ocean, over the 6 weeks, we’ll cover one of the most scenic coastlines in the world making our way from Cape Town to tropical Durban with a bit of everything in between.

So the goal of this trip is to surf our brains out and improve as much as possible while enjoying everything SA has to offer on the side. So far we’ve been putting plenty hours in the water, and why wouldn’t you with a wave like Muizenberg right on your doorstep! It’s widely considered to be the best beginner beach in the world and offers quite a bit for the more equipped surfer as well, the best part about it is it’s only a stone’s throw away from where we’re based in Cape Town.

Surf trips are all about finding waves and enjoying the journey, in the past 7 days we’ve clocked a few km’s in search of the best waves and explored much of the Cape’s coast in doing so. Surf Travel is really one of the best ways to see a foreign country as the pursuit of waves can lead you to the most incredible places outside of the conventional.

The search

We drove out west in search of a wave that wasn’t affected by the stronger winds on the day, the smaller swell made things difficult but we managed to get a few out in Blouberg, at Big Bay Beach.

We’re very fortunate to have two incredibly talented surfers as our head coaches on this trip and since Cape Town is where they’ve spent their lives honing their skills our stay wouldn’t be complete without visiting their home break, Long Beach in Kommetjie

There’s no doubt Cape Town is one of the most scenic destinations on the planet and after 7 days here we’ve managed to experience quite a lot of its beauty. We still have another 5 days here though and there’s still plenty to do and see yet so stay tuned for more of us and our journey here! Penguins, Wine Tasting and more coming up…

The vibes are strong in Cape Town!
