Why South Africa is a Dream Come True for all levels of surfer between January and March.
Firstly:
1. It’s Summer Baby!
January is mid-summer in South Africa, which means warm water, sunshine and super long beach days. While much of the world is shivering, you’ll be working on your tan between surf sessions. No wetsuit? No problem, many spots we surf are comfortable in just a rash vest or even just boardies.
2. Waves for Every Level
Whether you’ve never seen a surfboard, just figuring out how to pop up, got your sights on trimming along a green wave, or maybe even want your first tube, The South African coastline that we have been scouring for two decades now has the perfect wave for you.
We’ll be surfing in Muizenberg, Cape Town, which is a long, gentle beach break with easy paddling and mellow waves that go on forever, we then hit up the iconic waves in Jeffrey’s Bay where we surf the less crowded waves like Kitchen Windows and Phantoms and we also taste some powerful warm water, sandy bottom waves in Durban, amongst heaps of other spots.
3. NO Crowds
What people don’t seem to realise about surfing in South Africa, is just how empty and lonely the line-ups can be. Imagine spending the day surfing with just yourself and your new found mates oh, there is also…
4. Wildlife… Everywhere!
Dolphins cruising the lineup and penguins waddling on the beach whilst you’re surfing is totally surreal. The natural beauty of course doesn’t stop at the beach though, seeing Lions in their natural environment in the best safari’s in the World is once in a lifetime stuff.
5. Chilled Lekka Surf Culture
South African surf towns are full of good vibes, friendly locals, and amazing post-surf snacks. Think beach cafés, cold drinks, and tall tales about your “massive” (probably waist-high) waves. It’s the perfect place to build confidence and meet other stoked beginners.
6. Bang For Your Buck
South Africa is great value for international visitors. Everything feels about a third cheaper than Europe, meaning you can spend more time in the water and less worrying about your wallet.
7. Epic Road Trips
Now we are talking! The Garden Route, Wild Coast, the wave-laden stretch from Cape Town to Jeffreys Bay will take you past mountains, forests, small surf towns, and hidden beach breaks. It’s the kind of trip you’ll never forget.
Finally
South Africa in January is sunshine, surfboards, and smiles. It’s the perfect mix of warm water, friendly waves and adventurous vibes. So pack your sunscreen and get ready to ride the waves in one of the most stunning countries on Earth.
Catch you in the lineup! 🏄♀️🇿🇦
