On Friday night we invited our staff, friends and past riders down to the surf school in Perranporth for a great get together and party. Ticket to Ride Worldwide Surfing Adventures and Surf Schools invited the good folk from Basecamp, Errant Surf Travel and Wavelength Magazine over for a BBQ and beers at Seiners overlooking the surf.
The afternoon kicked off with a fun surf together kicked off by British surfing legend and coach Sam Lamiroy, of the Sam Lamiroy Academy, chatting us through the IAM bands surf levels and then doing the assessment of all involved from the beach, before joining us in the water to show us how it’s done. Some of the team were having their first surf, so we got some of the surf school surf instructors, who had got qualified out in South Africa on the 10 week South Africa trip, to teach them their basics. There was some good swell and we had a great time and a laugh, despite the cross-shore wind making it hard to get to the higher levels of the IAM band levels!
Ticket to Ride was founded in 2005 by Will and Linley, so this year marked their 10-year reunion of really putting the trip together. After the surf we all got together and had a great BBQ, just to show our South African stalwart and Ticket to Ride team member of the past eight years Chris Bond that we knew how to ‘braai’ in the UK! We had lots of past riders from the surf trips there, as well as Basecamp riders, and friends and family. The beers flowed, old friendships were rekindled, new friendships were made and the laughs echoed off late into the night.
