Woman’s Fight For Equality

This year on the 23rd of June something amazing is going to happen…
Waves For Change are partnering up with the Ticket To Ride team to represent their annual Thames Stand up paddle board challenge. This year will be bigger and better. We are honouring woman’s fight for equality and we are encouraging more women to have secure access to surf therapy that will improve all-around wellbeing.

Waves For Change is a well-known foundation promoting a positive impact on mental health.

The Organisation

Tim Conibear is the Founding Director of Waves for Change (W4C), a Surf Therapy organisation that is looking to make the provision of therapy more child-friendly. W4C is a multi-award winning organisation based in Cape Town, led by surfers and mental health professionals, in partnership with township communities and the University of Cape Town.

The organisation has adapted the learn-to-surf process into unique, evidence-based learn to surf programmes, delivered by community members that have been trained and mentored by W4C. Impact studies with the University of Cape Town indicate that W4C programmes alleviate symptoms of trauma with additional benefits to behaviour and school attachment. Scaled from a start-up, with zero funding and zero reach, W4C now reaches over 1000 young people per week across South Africa, with the support of partners including Comic Relief and the DG Murray Trust.

So… Why Not Challenge Yourself For The Greater Good?

Anyone can enter the challenge; bring your family members and friends to raise funds. Although this challenge is to raise funds for a good cause, it is an all-around fun event to take part in.
Summer in London, water, fun, good cause!

There is going to be a choice of two routes, the shorter one is 5km, which is at 13:30pm if you are not a morning person 🙂 and the other is 35km, for those who are early birds at 07:30am sharp. Both take in the scenic views of London, both guarantee a lot of fun, and both will go a long way is helping us achieve our mission.

Last but definitely not least, there is an after party and the location is at The Blue Boat, Distillery Wharf. Where there will be Waves For Change Merchandise, great prizes and there is even a prize for the best wipeout!! Everyone is a winner.
