Good morning all.?The most exciting talk of this morning is how stiff our shoulders are because of the long paddle after the endless rides at Supers yesterday morning. Other than that we all had a good weekend with lots of partying going down at the bar here at Island Vibe on Saturday and then an afternoon excursion to the ‘Waterfall’ to test our courage on Sunday.??The forecast for the swell which we had been watching closely online was looking good, but by Sunday evening there was still very little sign of swell coming through, which put doubt in our minds. We decided to set the alarms for 4:30 am regardless and hope for the best.
We awoke to the sound of waves crashing and looked out the window to see white lines coming through in the still-dark morning sky. We still didn’t know what size this would translate to at Supers knew it would be worth the drive. We got the crew together and headed down. For those who weren’t gonna surf the waves, they were understandably still amped to come and watch the famous wave. Upon arriving there it took barely 5 minutes before Sam, Will and myself had slipped into our wetsuits, waxed up our boards and were running up the beach with 2-3 metre waves reeling down the point. Wigsy, Frosty and Gabbi quickly got up the confidence to come and join us in the line-up. This was an impressive feat as the power of the waves far exceeded anything they had surfed before and with that size and speed Supertubes is no easy wave to surf. We all caught our fair share of waves as the sun rose and dolphins graced the line-up. As more and more people caught on that there were waves we had had our fair share and went in stoked after an epic session. The rest of the day was spent surfing cooking Kitchen Windows in front of Island Vibe and a couple of them got an evening glass-off session at Point further down the Supertubes wave. ??The previous day, on Sunday we had strong winds and decided to try and escape them by heading to the waterfall, about a 15 minute drive from our Backpackers.
The waterfall consists of a fairly small waterfall at this time of year, but there is a Zip-wire down into a lovely pool, as well as several different heights which you can jump off into the water. Impressively everyone who went to the highest jump jumped off without too much of a wait. For others the lower jump was a big challenge it its own and some bravery was shown by Johnny and Milly to throw themselves over the edge. Sam impressed all with back-flips off the lower one and a crazy dive off the top jump. This apparently redeemed his previous night’s antics… A fun afternoon was had by all of us who went there and it was a good escape from the wind.??
Today is an awesome still, hot day in Jeffreys Bay. We have some swell left over from yesterday providing lovely glassy waves and hopefully another long day full of lots of surfing. With plans of going to St. Francis Bay, which features in the famous Endless Summer movies, tomorrow, and then some community work as well as the massive crossover party on Saturday night with trip 2, we have got a great looking week ahead.?Okay, it’s too hot to be sitting in the room typing, I got to get out and smell the sea air. I’m amped for another fun day; I wish yours could possibly be as good. Hope it is.??Have a good one?Chris
