Hi all
I would welcome you all to Mozambique, however, I'm not in Mozambique right now. The South African league of our tour came to an end a few days ago, and so to my stretch of the tour. From here on in you're all going to be in the very capable hands of Chris Bond, Ryan Ribink and Byron Brodz. But before we go into all that – lets recap on the last few days of the SA league.
The courses are finally over!! It seemed like the day would never come, but it did and it what a wonderful day it was too! From here on the guys can kick back, relax and really enjoy what Mozambique has to offer without worrying about any more course work. This is the really fun part of the trip!!
While the course did take up a fair amount of time, we weren't too busy to enjoy a few more of the activities in and around Balito. Last Saturday the local rugby team the Sharks came up against the Western Cape Stormers in the Super 14 so we figured we'd go along to support and get a taste of some SA sporting fever! Sadly our team ended up losing at home, but it was still a great atmosphere and really good to be there.
Back in Balito we managed to sneak in a game of paintball between course sessions, and what a game it was. I'm pretty sure all the trip tension got vented out during our little skirmish. Some stealthy tactics and daring runs saw guys getting taken from behind a few times – which is always fun to watch, although, some guys seemed to be having just a little too much fun…
We decided to do something a little less violent for our next excursion and this time, we headed out to Gateway to visit the Wavehouse. The Wavehouse has to be one of my favourite activities. Water gets forced out of a line of pumps which squirt out towards you and up a wall, gushing underneath your board and causing you to aquaplane. The weird thing though, is that, although you're planing really well, your pretty much stationary throughout the whole experience – except for when you wipe out that is – and boy were there some good wipe outs too…After a while the guys really started to get the hang of things and it ended up being a great day out.
Back in Balito it was time to pack and get ready for Mozambique!! Mike and Ros and the guys from the Secret Spot surprised us all with a delicious pizza night! Home made pizza's cooked in a log fire oven…now that's what I'm talking about! We spent the night chatting away and reminiscing about all our experiences over the past few weeks. It seems like and age since we all landed in Cape Town, but now that it's almost over, it's like it was just yesterday.
There are still a few more weeks to go though for our guys before the trip is well and truly over, but for me, this is my stop and I'm getting off here. It's been a absolute pleasure travelling with and getting to know all the guys, and also sending all these updates to everyone at home. I'm sure the next 3 weeks are going to be just awesome for our guys, as for me – a nice long sleep is in order!
So till the next trip
Take care
Regards
Bevan
