Alex completed our 13 week South Africa and Mozambique Learn to Surf Adventure in January 2013 only having had a couple of lessons when he was younger. Not knowing anyone on the trip didn’t put off Alex at all and considered meeting new friends was all part of the experience.

Before the trip Alex was a regular player on the Rugby pitch however he started to swim a lot to make sure he was surf fit for when he arrived in Cape Town. After getting advice from his Trip Leaders on the ideal Surfboard for him to progress on, he headed up the Southern African coastline with his brand new board.

Alex took full advantage of the trip extras, including the worlds highest bridge bungee jump. He loved it so much he threw himself off the 272m drop twice, going backwards the second time around.

Alex’s favorite stop on the trip was Coffee Bay, scoring some of his best waves being surrounded by the incredible landscape there. Although Alex had little surfing experience coming on to the trip, he gained his ISA and Surf Beach Life Guard qualifications towards the end of the trip Durban.

Upon arriving back in the UK Alex has organised to complete his 20 hours of Surf Coach shadowing down at the Ticket to Ride Surf School in Perranporth then going on to have the unique opportunity of being able to coach surfing all over the world.

Summing up his Ticket to Ride experience was pretty simple…..

.. “The most incredible thing I’ve ever done, I couldn’t recommend it more!”
