Wow, its been a busy few days here in Jeffreys Bay, with loads of waves and plenty other stuff going on too. I hope you enjoyed the last video blog from the boys, there will be another one coming up on Friday to show you what we have been up to. ??Today we went to Cape St Francis which is famous from the movies Endless Summer 1 and 2. It is beautiful little town recognizable by its thatch roof houses and has a great quiet, relaxed feel to it.
A lot of surfers retire there or move there in there later years as there are awesome friendly waves and it is a little bit off the map. We found a lovely left and right down the beach with no one out and everyone got really good waves. It was great to see the girls dominating and catching the majority of the waves. This was followed by a trip to the famous st francis pie shop and then another surf at a little left reef down the beach. The waves were extremely fun and it is really great to see how much everyone is improving. The difference in their surfing from three weeks ago to now is amazing.??Over the weekend we were getting consistently good waves right out in front of the backpackers. The swell direction was perfect for the waves here and it has just been non-stop. Although only in the head high range the swell hasn’t wavered and all of us were pretty tired by today. ??
The community work that we have been doing, as mentioned before, has been for a crèche in the local township. We constructed a gate from scratch and painted it here at the backpackers so that we could go and just put it up at the crèche. Yesterday we went up there in the afternoon with our tools and set to work. It ended up being quite a job as the gate posts and fence are all off-set and roughly put together from the start, but we managed to improvise and put it up with lots of measuring and quick thinking. We also fixed up the fence which had many broken slats and holes where the children could climb out.
With Steve having a carpentry background and myself having done plenty of these sorf of jobs we did our best to stand back and help and we could see that the guys were getting better at it while they worked and they did a really good job in the end, certainly something to be proud of.??Despite only three nights left in Jeffreys Bay we still have a busy and exciting schedule ahead of us with a tour of a surfboard factory, going to play with lion cubs, doing some rock jumping and a dress-up party all on the cards. We are also looking forward to Anthony and Luke joining us on Thursday afternoon who will be on the remainder of the trip with us. ??Got to get some sleep so I can hit the dawnie tomorrow, hope you are enjoying the updates.??Chris
