Well it’s a sad time wrapping up in Coffee Bay. This is for two reasons; one because it is such a beautiful and special place and also because the waves have just turned good! It is our last night tonight and everyone has really enjoyed the ‘chilled’ vibe here at coffee bay.<\/p>\n

Last night everyone went up to the pizza place in Coffee Bay and we put up the video footage of the surfing so far on the trip. Watching oneself surf is both one of the most demoralising things and also motivational. It is often a shock to see that the wave that felt so good doesn’t look quite as amazing as you thought, and that turn didn’t quite throw the spray you thought it had! On the positive though you can learn a lot about where you need to improve and with the assistance of coaches how to get to get there. That night there was a dress-up party here at the backpackers and everyone put in a good effort and it was a fun night. <\/p>\n

We were greeted by clean 3-4 ft waves (1.5-2 metres) the next morning. This was one of the first mornings of proper offshore clean surf and with crystal clear water and sun shining it the day we had been waiting for. The onshore did come up slightly but we all got in the water for most of the day and it was the perfect final day in Coffee Bay. In the afternoon Dave Malherbe, one of South Africa’s most respected surfers, as well as coach to 3 of South Africa’s top 44 surfers, did a coaching session with the group. He focussed on two main points for the group to work on which are absolutely crucial in the progression of their surfing. We got to surf with him in the evening too which is always a pleasure to watch.<\/p>\n

Umtentweni is where we are heading to next, closer to Durban and near to some of South Africa’s better, cleaner point and beach breaks. We will also be drawing nearer to the ‘business’ end of the trip with the course just around the corner so swims and a bit of training will be part of our everyday routine. So onto the South Coast of Kwazulu-Natal is where we’ll next be in touch with you.<\/p>\n
