We are stoked to be running three trips to the Maldives in 2026; a Sri Lanka x Maldives combo, a ladies-only trip and one open to everyone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The M word comes with some preconceptions – luxury, expensive, no booze, etc, but what can you expect from the experience? Here\u2019s the Lowdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Waves<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From May to October, the Maldives lights up with clean Indian Ocean swell breaking over perfectly shaped reefs creating long, rippable rights and playful lefts, with options for all levels of confidence from cruisy walls to hollow barrels. Basically the stuff you have seen online is the reality. The waves themselves rarely get massive and most of the reefs are deeper than those found in Indonesia, making the Maldives an intermediate surfers paradise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Setting<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll be staying on Thulusdoo Island in stylish, twin-share ensuite rooms with air-conditioning, just a short stroll from the world-famous Cokes surf break. This wave is actually quite high performance, so great to watch after a hard days surfing. You\u2019ll wake up to the sound of waves, grab your board, jump on the speed boat and hit the surf. Between surfs, cool off in the turquoise lagoon, snorkel with reef fish, or kick back in the shade with a fresh juice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rhythm<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Days fall into an easy flow dependant on the tides so it may be dawn patrols followed by long breakfasts and a second session when the tide changes, or might be a solid fueling breakfast getting ready for most of the day on the boat surfing. There’s definitely chill time swapping wave stories with the crew and evenings bring good food and that familiar glow only saltwater and sunshine can give you. What about the sundowner beers you ask? Well the island is a dry island, however, there are boat charters that you can visit if you really fancy the sunset cold one and a beer costs $5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What to Bring<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keep it simple: clothes to surf in, sunscreen \/ zinc, wax and maybe some booties if you\u2019re new to reef surfing. Bring a couple of boards if you can as options are limited on the island just in case the worst case scenario happens\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vibe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is what surf travel is all about good waves, good people and a shared adventure you\u2019ll talk about for years. The Maldives is a place that slows you down, tunes you in and reminds you why you started surfing in the first place and Thulusdoo island encapsulates all of that. The main religion in the Maldives is Muslim and in Muslim-majority coastal areas (like Arugam Bay in Sri Lanka) life moves to a slower, more deliberate rhythm. There\u2019s a sense of stillness between the calls to prayer and a kind of mindful pace to how people live, not rushed, not noisy, just present. That can make the whole atmosphere feel peaceful. Then add on top of that an abundance of beautiful fluffy Persian cats everywhere (yes seriously google it) and not one dog, you really are chilling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trips<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sri Lanka x Maldives<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the only trip where beginners are allowed to join. You\u2019ll spend the first week learning to surf (or honing your surfing skills) on Sri Lanka’s South West Coast during the beautiful Green Season surfing Weligama Bay, then you will head to the airport with Robbie Burke, your Trip Leader and after the short flight to Male in The Maldives, you will jump on a speedboat and head to the beautiful Island of Thulusdoo and get the party started. Beginners will small unscary waves on the shore of the island, anyone over beginner will get taken to the reefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
