Northern Spain surf and cycle adventure with Ticket to Ride ">

Northern Spain Cycle Surfari

7 days Spain Catered

Drink in the dramatic scenery whilst cycling up challenging mountains, along quiet roads and through beautiful coastal towns, surfing empty waves along the way.

A unique cycle and surf adventure along quiet roads, up massive mountains and through beautiful coastal towns on the spiritual path of El Camino De Santiago in Northern Spain.

The tour starts in Bilbao, where it picks up El Camino De Santiago and follows the northern route to the sleepy surf town of Loredo. This coastal highway is impressively engineered yet lightly used and makes for some of the most spectacular coastal riding in Europe. It does however run you into a few major gradients, so be prepared...

The waves in this region vary regarding to the swell, but due to the topography of the area, if there is too much swell there's always a sheltered corner to be found and if it's small, we can always find an exposed beach.

This is the perfect holiday for the active adventurer.

After your arrival into Bilbao you will be transferred to your first camp site in Zarautz where you will spend the first two nights. You will get to meet the rest of your fellow Riders, surf the big beautiful beach, lap up the Northern Spain vibes and go through the route plan.

  • Zarautz to Lekeitio 1 Day

This is a short but moderately tough 30 miles as we cruise along some of the most undulating roads in the continent, with the pinnicle being the last mountain on which the campsite sits. If anyone makes it up this without pushing the bike we will be very impressed. Make sure you have seconds of the porridge...

  • Lekietio to Bilbao 1 Day

This is hard 33 miles, which includes one leg burning 8 mile incline to the beautiful town of Larrabetzu, a popular spot for Camino De Santiago hikers, where we will stop for lunch. As well as a grueling crescendo of a hill into Bilbao where we will enjoy an evening of rich Spanish cuisine and World-class wine. When in Rome!

  • Bilbao to Laredo 1 Day

This is another solid slog of 40 miles including some cute coastal roads and not so cute mountains.

  • Laredo to Loredo 2 Days

The final day is a cruisy 20 miles, which includes some inclines but nothing compared to the previous days. Here you will feel like you are really escaping city life and are in true Cantabria as you peddle your way past quiet farms and are completrely surrounded by the everything green. The welcome in Loredo will be warm and we will have two nights to make the most of the great waves at Playa de Somo.

  • Departure Day 0 Week

We aim to have a morning surf on the final day and will be running two transfers to Bilbao in the afternoon.

Got a question about this course? Here's the best place to start. If you don't find your answer here, you can request a callback or get in touch using our contact page.

Spain is a true gastronomic delight, full of wonderfully gluttonous treats. However our daily menu will fuse local treats with healthy fuel and our in-house chef can cater to any dietary requirements you may have.

Traditional surf lessons aren’t on the itinerary and we do ask that surfers are competent in surfing on their own. However TTRide staff are qualified lifeguards and surf instructors and we will be all surfing together, so you will receive advice, tips and techniques all week from trained professionals and will be in safe hands.

We will provide all bike maintenance equipment in the support vehicle and your guide will be carrying basic spares and tools, however you are required to bring your own bike and any cycling clothing you may want to wear.

A general level of good fitness is required. You don’t have to be a cycle enthusiast, but be able to ride a bike and be up for a challenge.

Yes we will be bringing a range of Surftech surfboards and wetsuits with us in the support vehicle. You can specify your requirements upon booking.

Bike hire will be arranged locally and a suitable bike will cost no more than £150 for the trip.

Pack lightly as you won't need a lot. You will be wearing your lycra all day, followed by a wetsuit and then will need some comfortable clothes for the evening at the camp, something to sleep in and a nice outfit for the final meal. You should have extra space in your hand luggage...
