Overview

The classic and comprehensive ski instructor training programme in the 3 Valleys.

Our Meribel BASI Level 1 & 2 course is perfect for anyone who wants a fast track into the ski instructor industry. Whether you are pursuing a career path after school or university, or looking for a career change, our BASI Level 1 & 2 course sets you up perfectly for this dream lifestyle. A more intensive coaching itinerary expects a higher level of skiing right from the start.

Our goal is to build riders up for success and this can only happen if they take the training side of the course very seriously. BASI Level 2 should not be underestimated but we have action plans and support systems in place to provide a good learning environment. We provide regular assessment during the programme to ensure students are on track for the standard required to sit their Level 2 exams.

If you wish to progress further along the BASI pathway, we also run a BASI Level 3 programme, with scholarships and sponsored positions available on this course for high-achieving students.

Qualifications

BASI Level 1: Qualifies you to teach novice and early intermediates in a non-mountain environment, ie. the UK on artificial and indoor slopes. For plenty of people this is all you will need in terms of a qualification that you will use, for others it's just one of the required stepping stones en-route to level 2 and beyond.

BASI Level 2 (Optional): For instructors that wish to work in the mountains on a part time or peak seasonal basis. BASI level 2 skiers have a competent knowledge, ability and understanding to safely teach alpine skiing up to and including parallel standard on marked pistes.

First Aid: As with all BASI qualifications, a first aid qualification is required alongside this award for it to be officially recognised and signed off by BASI. First Aid training leading to a recognised qualification is included in the Basecamp course.

FAQs

Got a question about this course? Here's the best place to start. If you don't find your answer here, you can request a callback or get in touch using our contact page.

If you are looking to work in the ski business, this course provides the best path into the industry! This course is ideal for anyone looking to qualify as a Level 2 instructor and wishing to travel, work and live the life in the mountains.

We ask that you can ski comfortably down red runs and occasional blacks. Often it is more about confidence and those who are really up for improving, regardless of their ability, are the ones who progress the most. If you would like to head out to the resort beforehand in order to have a week or two of skiing and dust off the cobwebs this is something we can arrange. If you are unsure of your ability please speak to your course advisor.

The Level 1 isn't too difficult to pass as the entry level qualification and we generally see 100% pass rates. Participants will be assessed on their ability to perform and teach on the mountain. The Level 2 in a pretty big step up from the Level 1, however the course's sole focus is getting you this qualification, so all the training you receive gears you up for the awards; as well as being given specific programmes to work on when you are skiing in your own time. The BASI Level 2 is difficult but achievable, and the programme is designed to walk you through it, however it does require a level of commitment from you and you need to be prepared to focus hard on achieving the qualification.

With your Level 2 you can teach around the world, and we would be happy to point you in the right direction to get a job. If you want to progress further along the BASI pathway, we now offer an exclusive BASI Level 3 training programme, along with scholarships and sponsored mentor positions for high-achieving riders.

Basecamp provide you with 140 hours of training, your Level 1 and 2 exam, first aid course, CRB check and make you an associate member of BASI. Having done these you will need to complete the Safeguarding Children Module on the BASI website for a cost of £25 and then call the BASI office and pay £20 to become a full BASI Member and get your licence.

All of the training on this course is focused on becoming a Level 1 and Level 2 BASI Instructor, which are great qualifications to get and a great way to get into the industry. However if you don’t see yourself ever working as a ski instructor or using the qualification we don’t recommend taking the course, as it adds cost and with the coaching being focused solely on the qualifications you don’t receive as much performance coaching. Instead, we would highly recommend our 11 week All Mountain Instructor Course or 11 week Performance Course as more rounded adventures that will improve all elements of your skiing.

The course's sole focus is getting you this qualification, so all the training you receive gears you up for the awards. The instructors build you up for success with regular assessment and action plans to ensure you are at the level you need to be to sit the Level 2 qualification. We take our instructor course seriously and would love 100% pass rates every year. We offer other courses in Meribel if the instructor route isn't for you, so check out our All Mountain or Performance courses.

We will organise a re-sit for the Level 1 soon afterwards for anyone who may not have passed. You would then move onto a separate parallel pathway of training towards your BASS NVQ qualification. There may still be a chance to sit your BASI Level 2 if the instructors felt that you had improved sufficiently to be at the standard to sit it.

Throughout the course, your instructors will be assessing your ability to make sure you are reaching the necessary standard. If at any point they feel you are not quite there, there is an option to not take your Level 2, but focus more on your own technique and varied skiing ability by moving onto a pathway towards taking your BASS NVQ (still a recognised skiing level). This would incorporate more off-piste, freestyle and varied skiing into your training, away from the BASI checkboxes.
