The original and comprehensive snowboard instructor programme in the 3 Valleys!

If you’re looking to carve a career path as a snowboard instructor, then our Meribel BASI Level 1 and 2 course is designed to give you a solid introduction to the industry. By joining the 11 week course, you'll be able to enjoy all that this amazing resort has to offer, while gaining your globally recognised BASI qualification. An intensive BASI coaching itinerary ensures that our pass rates are high, and that each and every one of our riders has the best possible chance of passing.

We are dedicated to building students up for success and take the training side of the course very seriously. BASI Level 2 should not be underestimated but we have action plans and support systems in place to provide a good learning environment. We provide regular assessment during the programme to ensure students are on track for the standard required to sit their Level 2 exams.

If you wish to progress further along the BASI pathway, we also run a BASI Level 3 programme, with scholarships and sponsored positions available on this course for high-achieving students.

Here you'll find a day by day breakdown of your course.

  • Individual Assessment and BASI Introduction 1 Week

Familiarise yourself with the resort and how BASI operates. During the first week you will receive the basic instructional tips on the quickest way to improve your riding, and the key factors for passing BASI, so that you start with a great base on how to pass.

  • BASI Level 1 Preparation 1 Week

With only 1 week left until the BASI 1 exam, this week is all about making sure that you achieve success. Here we will fine tune technical skills in advance of the Level 1, and make sure you've got those basics nailed.

  • BASI Level 1 Exam 1 Week

The week is all about assessment, but you'll also receive up to 20 hours of coaching, so you can expect to learn a thing or two as well.

  • Development review 1 Week

So you've completed your BASI Level 1, what's next? Time to crank it up to the next level!

  • All round performance 1 Week

Being able to ride and slide on all conditions is absolutely key. So this week you can expect to cover a range of moguls, steeps, freestyle and off-piste sessions.

  • Shadowing Week 1 Week

For your BASI Level 2 you need to gain 35 hours of contact work with snowboard schools, so this week you'll be shadowing the instructors and taking on project work.

  • Technical Riding 1 Week

How to improve both your sliding turns and your carving turns.

  • Skills and Technique 1 Week

Improve and fine tune key skills, techniques and teaching methods. You will be sitting your BASI Level 2 next week, so this is a great chance to iron out any chinks that you have in your riding to make sure you have the best chance of passing.

  • BASI Level 2 Exam 2 Weeks

A two week assessment and learning period with a focus on technical ability and teaching ability. We have come to expect a decent pass rate on this course.

  • Step Up Week! 1 Week

A week to relax after your exam. Hang out with friends, chill in the sun or take advantage of freestyle, splitboard or Level 3 taster sessions we will put on for you.

BASI Level 1

Qualifies you to teach novice and early intermediates in a non-mountain environment, i.e. the UK on artificial and indoor slopes. For plenty of people this is all that they need in terms of a qualification, for others it's just one of the required stepping stones en-route to Level 2 and beyond.

BASI Level 2 (Optional)

Qualifies you to work in the mountains on a part time or peak seasonal basis. BASI Level 2 snowboarders have a competent knowledge, and the ability and understanding to safely teach snowboarding up to and including linked turns on marked pistes.

First Aid

You'll need your first aid qualification in order to be officially recognised and signed off by BASI. Lucky for you, first aid training and the recognised qualification is included in the Ticket to Ride course.

Got a question about this course? Here's the best place to start. If you don't find your answer here, you can request a callback or get in touch using our contact page.

This course is best suited to anyone who is looking to gain all their instructor qualifications with the aim of working, travelling and living the life as a qualified instructor.

Honesty is the best policy! If you can't ever see yourself working as a ski instructor, then we wouldn't recommend taking the course, as it's all about the qualification rather than gaining insights into your riding prowess. Instead, we would highly recommend our All Mountain Course in Banff as a more rounded adventure, or our improver courses for a shorter and more intensive trip.

As long as you can ride red runs confidently, do a bit of switch and aren't terrified by the thought of black runs, you'll be absolutely fine.

If you fancy brushing up on your riding skills by heading out to the slopes before the course, then simply give us a call.

You are not guaranteed the qualification as you must pass the assessment to be granted it. The course's sole focus is getting you the Level 1 and 2 qualification, so all the training you receive gears you up for the awards; as well as being given specific programmes to work on when you are free-riding.

The BASI Level 2 is difficult but achievable, and the programme is designed to walk you through it, however it does require a level of commitment from you and you need to be prepared to focus hard on achieving the qualification. Our pass rate is generally around 85-90%.

By joining a Ticket to Ride course, you'll automatically get 40 hours of training, your Level 1 exam, first aid course, CRB check and become an associate member of BASI.

Once this is done, you'll need to complete and pay for the Safeguarding Children Module on the BASI website. To become a full BASI member and obtain your licence, you'll then have to call the BASI office and pay an additional £20.

You'll get the best possible coaching with a maximum of ten boarders to one instructor. There would normally be around 60 others in resort on various courses, so plenty of people to ride with and get to know!

With your Level 2 you can teach around the world, and we would be happy to point you in the right direction to get a job. If you want to progress further along the BASI pathway, we now offer an exclusive BASI Level 3 training programme, along with scholarships and sponsored mentor positions for high-achieving riders.
