Hey Guys
Just thought I would do a quick update of life in Costa Rica so far.Everyone has settled in nicely and are adjusting to a pretty chilled lifestyle here in Santa Teresa.
This week we ( Minus Kearan who was feeling a little unwell) went to the Canopy tours in Mal Pais, with most of the group not doing this before there was a bit of trepidation as we nervously put on our safety gear and climbing harnesses. We first did a safety run on a practice line just so we could get to grips with the sensation of zip lining, all good so far. Next up a short drive and walk to our first zip line. This one was a lot higher up then the dummy run one however this was just a taster of bigger and better things to come. It is an amazing sensation as you take the plunge off the relative safety of your platform and whizz towards the next platform using one hand for balance and the other to control your speed. Going too fast will result in crashing into the on coming platform and going too slow will leave you having to climb up the line hand after hand until you get to the platform, quite tiring as I found out on one of the early zip lines. Then things really started to get interesting as we rose higher and higher and the distance from platform got longer and longer. However confidence was growing with each zip line and it wasnt long untill some of the group were hanging upside down (With the guidance of the instructors). Then next the BIG ONE this line was 1500 feet long and unlike the others the view was obstructed with leaves and branches. The instructors asked who wanted to go Superman? A long pause followed…… Miles was chosen somewhat reluctantly as the guinea pig and the rest of the group including myself looked on. With a quick alteration of the safety harnesses Miles was soon dangling off the platform while the Instructor held onto his feet. Living up to its name of Superman. Next we saw Miles shooting head first down into the unknown untill we could not see him anymore but could here the distant cries getting quieter as he moved at great speed towards the other platform. Excitedly the group waited in turn and the familiar cries of excitement as each in turn took there plunge into the unknown. Next up me. I can honestly say I have never experienced anything before quite like this, yes I have done parachute jumps and Bungee too, but this was something totally different I really did feel as though I went back years, transforming into my childhood hero Superman as I glided through and across the Jungle at speed. The whole ride maybe lasted 20 or so seconds but it felt longer and it was such a rush. I arrived safely at the platform where I was met by the rest of the group and seven happy smiling faces, knowing that they had just experienced the same buzz. A few more zip lines later and we had completed our Canopy Tour. We all had so much fun and the Instructors really made it a truly amazing experience.
Back to Funky Monkey, Santa Teresa and into the water for a quick surf before sunset.
But thats another story……..
