Groundhog Day in Paradise

“Okay, campers, rise and shine, and don’t forget your booties ’cause it’s cooooold out there today.”

This is a famous quote from the Bill Murray classic, Groundhog Day and couldn’t be a more inaccurate report for the groundhog day we’re experiencing out here in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica as it’s 31 degrees every day, feels about 40 and the ocean is a cool 30…

For those of you who haven’t seen this piece of early 90’s comedy gold, the film is about a weatherman who gets caught in a blizzard and then finds himself trapped in a time warp. He is doomed to relive the same day (groundhog day) over and over again until he gets it right.

It’s a nightmare and would be psychological torture, but imagine if your groundhog day consisted of waking up refreshed around 5am, stretching, surfing at sunrise in picture perfect conditions, refuelling with a healthy wholesome breakfast washed down with countless cups of best coffee in the World, more surf, more food, yoga, sunset beers, dinner, bed, repeat. This would be a dream; a welcomed time warp and pretty much sums up the current Costa Rica trip.

Jasmine and I are joined by Camille, Esther, Emma, Harry, Mari, Muireanne, Pat, Rob and Scott, all absolute legends who are currently frothing hard as we’ve just got back from a secret point break which we surfed for 2 hours with no one out.

Now our only worry is whether to wear factor 30 or move down to 15 as we head to the beach for the afternoon and if we need flip flops or not as the sand could be too hot…

Pictures speak louder than words so I’ll let the following shots tell the rest of the story.
