Having surfed so much that our bodies ached and we needed a rest we decided it was time to do one of our other activities on the Ticket to Ride Indonesia trip, river rafting.
All we really knew was that it was advertised a lot here and that it was supposed to be loads of fun. After an early morning surf in front of our backpackers we jumped in our transport and drove the couple of hours of scenic road to the beginning of our watery adventure. We split up into two rafts and proceeded to paddle, bounce and slide our way through one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. It really ticked all the boxes, including an amazing final rapid, which you can see in the photos.
We happened to also time this trip with the swell of the year in Indonesia. Back to back massive swells, which meant both that the waves that Bali is famous for, like Padang Padang, were firing, but also that we could surf some spots that generally don’t break at all. I can not name the one we surfed the most but if you have a look through the pics you will see that we surfed an amazing left hander on one of the most picturesque hidden places I have ever been to. It was truly magic, and having had a good session in the evening (followed by the famous fish BBQ in Jimbaran) we left well before sunrise to surf it the next morning too. Walking down the path in the dark and being the first ones to paddle out is always a great way to start the day.
In between surfs we had the joy of watching huge Uluwatu breaking with just a handful of chargers out there taking it on. The view from the cliff while one drinks a fresh fruit juice and chooses one of the many amazing food options is really second to none. You’ll even be offered a massage whilst waiting for your food, why not hey?
So the excitement continued and we really are (did) have a great beginning to the second week in Indonesia. As you can tell these blogs are a little jetlagged, but just enjoy scrolling through the photos and seeing what we have been up to.
Check back in soon,
Chris
