Following on from my account of early morning surfs, the routine start to each day in Costa Rica, (Read More about dawny surfing in Costa Rica here) breakfast takes on a whole new existence.

In Costa Rica, breakfast is not a meal to stumbled out of bed for, you have been awake for the best part of 3 hours, 2 hours of which have been filled with full on surfing exercise.

Outside of places like Costa Rica, I am not usually a fan of breakfasts as a first port of call in the morning, I definately like to have a few miles under my belt before sitting down to eat something.  I have to say that I don't think there is a meal I enjoy more than breakfast following on from an early morning surf in Costa Rica.

Sitting in the shade, having jumped out of a cooling shower sitting down to fresh mango juice, local coffee and depending on what you fancy that morning, a mixture of yet more fresh fruit, muesli, and maybe even an egg or two, all to be enjoyed safe in the knowlegde that you have earned this breakfast and even better than that, the day has just begun.

What is the plan for the rest of the day?

Depending on the conditions and thewherebouts of the tide, the ttride routine usually kicks off with a surf lesson. We usually run 2 groups, one for beginners, and one for more intermediate and advanced surfing. These lessons follow a unique format, largely because unlike your standard 'hi and bye' surf lesson in Costa Rica and around the world (often designed as a one off) ticket to ride surf courses take a longer term view of each TTRide's surf progression during their time on a course with us.

Surf lessons in Costa Rica, usually start off under palm trees in the shade, looking out over perfect sur, from this view point our surf coaches will be able to talk you through all the things to be keeping in the front of your mind during the up and coming session. Having hit the water, it is most likely that the session will be flimed. Watching vidoes of yourself surfing is one of the fastest way to correct faults quickly.

2 hours surfing with an instructor is often very different to 2 hours freesurfing. The main difference being that with a surf instructor surfing next to you, you are encouraged to catch many more waves. Wave count is without doubt one of the best way to speed surfing progression. Next time you are in the water, watch how busy the best surfers are, they are rarely sitting still, they are always paddling around making sure they are in position for the next wave. Our ticket to ride surf instructors are top of their game and with them at yourside you will be catching 10 times the number of waves you would usually expect to catch.

All this wave catching as well as regular visits to the beach to get feedback from the beach instructor/ surf photographer will leave you pretty tired out. Remember this is your second session of the day, by mid-day you will have clocked up 4 hours in the water!

Time to head for some lunch! Costa Rica has all the food that a hungry surfer could ask for. A chicken Burrito is a personal favourite of mine, with a water melon for pudding. After that it is time for a afternoon siesta filled of sweet dream of a morning full of waves!!

The Surf Yoga Session begins at 15.00 ( another highlight of living the good life in Costa Rica )

Tune in tomorrow to see how our surf yoga in costa rica goes down.
