August is known as the height of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere. However, Autumn is just around the corner which quickly fades into Winter. Blink and you’ll miss it.

Basically Winter’s coming and before you know it it will be the new year. Many of you share this morose musing as our trips and tours for 2025 are filling up quicker than they ever have.

So based on their popularity here’s the top 5 Ticket to Ride Surf Adventures for 2025:

Empty sand bottom point break with just our group out 🙂

Mozambique 3 Week Road Trip

Yeah Mozam. Who would have thought?

We have been completely fully booked on the November 2024 Mozam trip for months now. We’re talking trip leaders sleeping in a bunk bed in the kitchen of one of the accommodation suppliers full. But we aren’t cramming the trip full of guests, we limit the trip to 12 fortunate frothers who are raring to ride those empty sand bottom point breaks.

Mozambique is so popular because it remains a truly adventurous surf trip, yet is completely hassle-free for our guests. Three weeks fly by in the 4×4’s driving through the country, surfing remote corners, eating delicious Portuguese influenced food. We also have a true legend as our Lead Guide looking after you, Mr Mozambique himself Ryan Ribbink, who we’ve worked with for nearly 20 years. If he’s good enough for Steph and Gabriel he’s good enough for us.

  • Next Trip: 5th – 26th April 2025
  • Price: £1895
  • Availability: 2 Spaces left on early bird rate
  • Getting There: Fly in and out of Durban, South Africa*
  • Best Waves: All the spots in the Inhambane district (can’t say)
  • Musts: Enjoy the down days swimming with whale sharks, diving with massive manta rays
  • Local Tip: Prepare to surf hard, relax hard and I’m not going to say party hard, but pack your dancing shoes (sandals) as the nightlife is surprisingly fun for such a remote place and you’ll be boogying to local African rhythms and reggae in the beach bars most evenings.

*Airport transfers are included in the price. It is possible to fly directly to Mozambique (Inhambane Airport) just ask a member of our team to assist you with this option

This left hander is playful and leg achingly long breaking for 400m down a forgiving cobblestone point

Indonesia 4 Week Adventure

Ok so we all know Indo is where it’s at to progress your surfing and the rise in popularity is totally justified as the waves are perfect. However, the crowds can be an issue, which is why we setup the 4 Week ‘On the Go’ Surf Adventure, which takes guests off the beaten track.

You will still sample the delights that popular spots like Canggu has to offer (mainly burritos, tattoos, craft beer and epic sunset surf viewing of Aussie and local rippers at the ‘sandbar’) so you can get that Bintang vest and wear it proudly, but the surfing is done in less loud environments.

  • Next Trip: 10th May – 7th June 2025
  • Price: £2795
  • Availability: 2 Spaces left on early bird rate
  • Getting There: Fly in and out of Denpasar, Bali (Ngurah Rai International Airport)
  • Best Waves: Should we name it? No, we won’t, but it’s pretty obvious and still our favourite
  • Musts: Paddle out at Uluwatu just so you’ve experienced it. It’s the most iconic wave in Bali and it is busy, but the setup is actually like several wedges breaking down the reef so if you’re polite and patient you’ll get a wave.
  • Local Tip: Eat lunch at the local Warungs. Basically get a banging nasi goreng (fried rice with veggies and protein) or mie goreng (fried noodle version) after a morning of surf. Your tastebuds, belly and wallet will be satisfied, setting you up perfectly for an afternoon / pre sunset surf nap and will save you some cash for a social dinner.

Sunrise surfs for the win

Sri Lanka Surf House

We are coming into our fifth operating season at the Ticket to Ride Surf House in Sri Lanka with more pre-season bookings than ever. We’ve got the formula pretty dialled now, which Trip Advisor confirms (#1 Guest House in Ahangama).

You can’t really categorise our guests as they come from all around the world and are aged between 18 and 65+ but what they do have in common, is no matter what level of surfer they are they want to get actually better at surfing, whilst given skills and knowledge to progress on their own. If this sounds like you, the rest of 2024 is nearly fully booked so get your deposit in for a 2025 trip to Paradise now.

  • Seasonal Dates: 21st September 2024 – 31st May 2025
  • Price: From £497
  • 10% Pre-season discount code: LOVINGLANKA10
  • Getting There: Fly in and out of Colombo CMB Bandaranayake Airport
  • Best Waves: The waves out the front of the Surf House are great and work from 1 – 6ft.
  • Musts: Surf a reef break for the first time if you never have as they are very forgiving in Sri Lanka. If you are a competent surfer, you’ve got to try and get some tubes at Rams in Midigama.
  • Local Tip: Bring toiletries / suncream etc with you. There are only fake / nasty Chinese versions available locally or you’ll pay 3X the price for the imported stuff as a lot of things have up to 300% import tax on them. Oh and if you smoke tobacco bring that as well as all paraphenelia with you as selling rolling tobacco is illegal (not cigarettes they are available) – yes mad, but it’s a corrupt government fingers in pies thing.

Incomparable to any other right hand point

South Africa 10 Week Road Trip & Surf Instructor Course

Wahey, the original surfing adventure through South Africa is still rocking almost 20 years later. Whilst the route remains pretty much the same as it did back then, taking you from Cape Town to Durban through the beautiful ‘Garden Route’ surfing World Class waves such as Jeffrey’s Bay and getting fully qualified as an ISA Level 1 Surf Instructor, we’ve subtly tweaked the trip for the benefit of everyone.

So whilst you won’t be petting Lion Cubs any more (we only did that once) you will get daily breakfast and surf hire included. Win win win.

  • Next Trip: 25th January – 26th April 2025
  • Price: £7,695
  • Availability: 1 Space left on early bird rate
  • Getting There: Fly in and out of Cape Town International Airport
  • Best Waves: Too many to mention but the stretch up the Wild Coast has countless empty surf spots
  • Musts: Be a meat eater. Not really but Braai’s, Biltong, Ostritch Burgers, etc etc, SA is a carnivores paradise.
  • Local Tip: Buy a board out there, it is the cheapest place on the planet to buy a surfboard. If someone tells you they are going to meet you “just now” that could actually be hours later (“now now” means soonish). Oh and don’t drink the Carling Black Label, it’s about 8% and lethal.

This grainy pic from 2016 sums up Arugam Bay honestly. Not too big, sand bottom mini tubes, easy walk around after a wave, beginners on the inside, happy days.

Sri Lanka 3 Week Coast to Coast Surf Adventure

This trip started over 10 years ago on a bit of a whim. Around that time I was desperate to surf the World famous right hand points in Arugam Bay, but had obligations in the UK during the Summer which is when the East Coast Surf Season is on.

So after wrapping up a 2 week pop up surf camp on the South West Coast in early April, I took the risk at checking out a small swell that looked like it was getting into A Bay. I was pleasantly surprised to be riding 300m long chest high waves in what the surf forecasting site at the time said was 1-2ft. The following year we ran the first trip there and have been going back twice a year at the ‘start’ and end of the season, giving guests the unique opportunity to surf the popular south west coast and renown east coast in one surf trip.

  • Next Trip: 17th May – 7th June 2025
  • Price: £2,095
  • Availability: 2 Spaces left on early bird rate
  • Getting There: Fly in and out of Colombo CMB Bandaranayake Airport
  • Best Waves: Arugam Bay Main Point on its day or Peanut Farm (pictures above) for an easy mini tube
  • Musts: Get up at 4am ready for the sunrise surf.
  • Local Tip: Nap as often as possible so you have energy to surf at obscure hours to beat the crowds. Midday is the hottest time of the day, but also the quietest in the surf.
