Jeffreys Bay is a magical place and fully deserves its reputation as the Mecca of surfing with some of the world’s best right hand point breaks on offer. You'll be coached by the best throughout your 10 day surf camp, as the top South African surf coach Etienne Venter, will be correcting and fine-tuning your surfing, during early dawnies or evening glass-offs.

Surf Coaching

The surf coaching is specific to your level of surfing, so don't sweat it if the ocean isn't your best buddy yet, or if you're looking for more advice on how to improve your down the line speed or cutback - we've got it covered! With photo and video analysis and top daily coaching in consistent waves, you'll soon take your surfing to the next level.

Accommodation

You'll stay in a dorm on a bluff overlooking the second of Jeffreys Bay’s famous waves – Kitchen Windows. Island Vibe Backpackers is renowned throughout South Africa for its vibrant atmosphere, beautiful setting and is buzzing with travellers from around the world. Located right on the beach, you'll never miss out on the late evening glass-off. While the good food and good times at the bar and pool table with your new found surfing friends will mean you'll never want to leave.

Trip Timeline

Here you'll find a day by day breakdown of your course.

  • Master the basics and iron out the bad habits

    You'll get picked up from Port Elizabeth airport by one of your Trip Leaders and driven to the backpackers with a quick stop-off at the world-famous Supertubes. If you're a beginner, the first few days will be all about learning the lineup and mastering the basics of catching waves and popping up. For the more experienced surfer, you'll be ironing out the bad habits with corrective coaching.

  • Progression

    Screaming down the line on your first open face, or slashing your first cutback - you'll see your surfing improving in no time. With Etienne's expert advice, as well as your Trip Leader's constant in-water coaching, you'll take your surfing to the next level. A trip to the waterfall will also form part of your trip itinerary.

  • Surfing goals

    Finishing off your ride can be the most fun. During your last few days, we'll focus on where your surfing can go next and what it will take to get you there!

You will get five surfing lessons with Etienne and plenty of additional lessons lessons from your Trip Leaders who are qualified surf instructors. 

After you have been given a debriefing of the surf spots in J-Bay it is all systems go! Just save some of your surfing energy so that you make the most of the expert advice from your coaches.
