1 Feb 2025 3 Weeks All Levels Split Payment Options Trips from £2095

Overview

Surf from Cape Town to Jeffreys Bay, exploring the World Famous Garden Route along the way.

This three week South Africa Surf Road Trip is the perfect way to see highlights of the South African coastline.

The Garden Route has a simple, scenic, ocean-hugging highway which boasts heaps of waves, some just off the side of the road and others off-the-beaten-track. We'll scope them all out and get you in the water, whatever your surfing level.

What to Expect

Whether you're at the beginning of your surfing journey or already got some surfing skills, our qualified surf instructors as Trip Leaders and local surf coaches will see your surfing reach new levels.

This is a slightly shorter version of our 4 week road trip aimed at those who want to experience the best that South Africa's Garden Route has to offer, but haven't got the luxury of a month's holiday.

With regards to your surfing, there is no such thing as not being good enough or even being too good at surfing to join as we have the team, resources and waves to cater to everyone.

Trip Timeline

Here you'll find a day by day breakdown of your course.

  • Experience Cape Town

After getting picked up at the airport, you'll head to your beachfront accommodation and get settled into a welcoming braai (BBQ), then slide into the daily routine of surfing with fun extra activities slotting into the itinerary as and when the surf conditions allow.

  • Plettenberg Bay

You'll leave colourful Cape Town feeling pretty surfed out, but be welcomed by the breathtaking beaches of Plettenberg Bay. More surfing is on the agenda, but keep an eye out for the massive seal colonies and migrating whales and dolphins.

  • Cape St Francis

Now you're re-living The Endless Summer Dream. It's more developed than in the 60's cult film but it is still an exclusive paradise on the Eastern Cape coast.

  • Jeffreys Bay

You've made it to the best right hand point break on the planet. What most don't know abou this place is that yes it does have 'Supertubes' which we've all seen on the screen, but there's also miles of right hand points either side of this section of the wave and one of them is right outside out accommodation. After a week of surfing these and enjoying the local delicacies, you'll be in a transfer on the way to Port Elizabeth Airport, heading home, feeling like it was all a dream.

FAQs

Got a question about this course? Here's the best place to start. If you don't find your answer here, you can request a callback or get in touch using our contact page.

No, we have professional coaches who coach from completely beginner to a budding pro.

Please book your flights to land and depart from Cape Town International Airport and fly out of Port Elizabeth Airport. Book your flights for the start and end dates of the trip to get the included transfers, unless of course you plan to spend longer in South Africa.

Surfboard hire is included but South Africa is the cheapest place on the planet to buy a new surfboard and we are based next to one of the best surf shops in Cape Town, so highly advise treating yourself...

Wetsuits are included in Cape Town, but we reccommend bringing your own (3:2mil will be best). Wetsuits are cheaper at home (so the opposite to boards). Having your own is far nicer than using a rental as well.

The South Africa Rand (ZAR), which is a relatively stable but weak currency means that drinks and eating out will be cheap for most people.

As with anywhere in the world, and worse than some, South Africa has its fair share of crime. That's why you have your Trip Leaders with you, as they know the ins and outs of all the areas we visit to ensure your safety.

Of course! The vast majority of people on any of our trips come as solo travellers. It is a great way to meet people and do the holiday you want.

For most countries South African immigration will issue you with a holiday visa on arrival. This visa is free of charge and valid for 90 days. If you will be staying longer than 90 days you will need to apply for your visa extension early on in your trip. The 90 day holiday visas are only issued on the grounds that you have proof of return/onward travel out of South Africa. Please do double check with your embassy before departing for South Africa and check out the latest Foreign Travel Advice by going to www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice.
