Trip Timeline

Here you'll find a day by day breakdown of your course.

  • Welcome to Sri Lanka

You’ll be picked up from Colombo Airport before making the journey south to the Ticket to Ride Surf House in Ahangama. The drive takes around 2.5 hours, giving you time to relax, enjoy the scenery, or catch up on some sleep after your flight. Once you arrive, settle into the surf house, freshen up, and ease into island life with rooftop drinks, a Sri Lankan curry buffet, and an early night before surfing begins the next morning.

  • Surf & Progress

Over the next six days, your days will follow a structured surf progression programme designed to help you elevate every aspect of your surfing. Each day begins with a surf lesson in the warm waters of Ahangama, followed by breakfast back at the surf house.

From there, you’ll dive into surf theory sessions, video analysis, and surf-specific training designed to help you reach your individual surfing goals. With expert coaching throughout the week and optional afternoon surf sessions available each day, you’ll have the opportunity to truly focus on your progression and build confidence in a variety of conditions. Wednesday is a rest day, giving you time to surf, relax at the beach, explore the local area, or simply enjoy the laid-back atmosphere of Sri Lanka’s South West Coast.

  • Hill Country Exploration

Spend the final week exploring Sri Lanka’s breath taking hill country, travelling through Ella, Kandy, and Adam's Peak. Along the way, you’ll visit tea plantations and temples, ride the world-famous scenic railway through the mountains, and climb the iconic 5,000ft Sri Pada pilgrimage route for sunrise above the clouds.

It’s the perfect opportunity to experience a completely different side of Sri Lanka beyond the coastlines and waves.

  • Departure Day

On your final night, we will all still be aching from climbing all 5,500 steps at Adam's Peak so a big Sri Lankan curry will be much needed, followed by a couple of cold Lion Beers and a good sleep before your journey home begins :(

FAQs

Got a question about this course? Here's the best place to start. If you don't find your answer here, you can request a callback or get in touch using our contact page.

As the first stop is Ahangama, the journey from the airport is only 2.5hrs.

At the end of the trip, the journey from Adam's Peak back to the airport takes approximately 6 hours, so we recommend booking a later return flight where possible.

Flights need to be booked into Colombo International airport, which is also known as Bandaranaike and Katunayake airport. There are direct flights with Sri Lankan Airlines from London Heathrow to Colombo airport.

In Ahangama (1 week) your breakfast and 5 evening meals per week are included (so budget 2 evening meals and lunches). In the Hill Country (1 week) your breakfast only is included (so budget for lunch and dinners). It's always good to have some spare cash for snacks on the road and evening beers as well!

A meal in Sri Lanka can range from as little as £1 for a simple rice or curry, while a fresh tuna steak and a large Lion beer will set you back about £8. You can get two rotis and a milo for 200 LKR (50p) and rice and curry for 1000 LKR (£2.30).

The majority of surfers on our trips are beginners with minimal surfing experience. Sri Lanka is the perfect place to learn with super fun waves and friendly beach breaks but we can also cater to more advanced surfers. Our Trip Leaders are very experienced surfers and coaches that tailor their coaching to your skill level, so you'll leave Sri Lanka an infinitely better surfer than when you arrived.

No, for this itinerary you can land in Colombo at anytime. However, by mid afternoon would be ideal as this will give you some time to relax at the Surf House.

On the departure day the journey from Adam's Peak back to the airport takes approximately 6 hours, so we recommend booking a later return flight where possible.

Everyone traveling to Sri Lanka must have Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) for entering in to Sri Lanka. Visit www.eta.gov.lk for more information.

Ella Rock, 9 Arch Bridge, Little Adams Peak In Ella you will visit these iconic sites, as well as enjoy a scenic train journey.

Temple of the Tooth In Kandy we will visit the famous Temple of the Tooth - the cream of the crop when it comes to temples in Sri Lanka.

Botanical Gardens We will also visit the beautiful Botanical Gardens in Kandy, where monkeys swing freely in the trees and some of the countries most colourful flowers and trees grow.

Adams Peak Climbing Adam's Peak or Sri Pada is our crescendo. Adam's Peak is an important pilgrimage site and we will join other pilgrims as they walk the 5,500 steps up to the top of the mountain! The goal is to be on top of the mountain at sunrise, when the distinctive shape of the mountain casts a triangular shadow on the surrounding plain and can be seen to move quickly downward as the sun rises.

In Ahangama we have perfect fun green wave beach-breaks. There are also more challenging reef-breaks for our more advanced surfers, often overhead waves with offshore wind until 11am. This is also the 'shoulder season' to the peak tourist period, so we avoid the busy crowds.
